Special Assistant to Rear Admiral Susan Blumenthal, MD, MPA

Justin joined the Center in September 2008 as Special Assistant to Rear Admiral Susan Blumenthal, MD, MPA, the Center's Senior Advisor for Health and Medicine. He currently helps coordinate plans for the Commission on the U.S. Presidential Transition: The Future of Health and Medicine, part of the Center's Agenda 2008 initiative.

In 2003, Justin graduated with distinction from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Religious Studies. Following graduation, he served for two years in the Republic of Haiti as a field worker for Zanmi Lasante, the Haitian sister organization of the Boston-based health NGO, Partners in Health. In 2005 he traveled to Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar, where he obtained master's degrees in the Study of Religions and in the History of Medicine. While at Oxford, his thesis, The Political Economy of Black Lung in Appalachia: Labor and Occupational Health, c. 1945-1970, won the Kirkaldy Senior Prize in the History of Science, Medicine, and Technology. Justin also recently completed the Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Program at Johns Hopkins University.
