Research Fellow for International Policy

Jeffrey Thomas is Research Fellow for International Policy at the Center for the Study of the Presidency. He is engaged in a multi-year initiative to strengthen America’s ability to communicate with and engage other societies. CSP’s effort to establish a Foundation for International Understanding is a centerpiece of this initiative.

Previously, Jeff was Research Associate at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in the Russia and Eurasia Program and the Islam Program. His principal research focused on inter-ethnic and inter-religious conflict in the Russian Federation and other states of Eurasia. Before his work at CSIS, Jeff contracted with the U.S. Agency for International Development and served as a Legislative Assistant for U.S. Senator Wyche Fowler (D-GA).

Jeff is a contributing author to Islam in Russia: The Politics of Identity and Security, 2004, and Strengthening U.S.-Muslim Communications, 2003.

Jeff received his B.A. in International Relations (1988) and his M.A. in International Development (1996) from the School of International Service at American University. He completed language training at St. Petersburg State Polytechnical University in St. Petersburg, Russia.
