Aleena Fayaz

What are you doing now?
I am currently a News Associate at CNN where I work closely with CNN domestic show teams and 2024 presidential election coverage. It’s an exciting time in the bureau as we report this historic year in politics!

How has the Fellowship impacted your career?
The Fellowship was incredibly formative in confirming my love for public policy and political journalism. Through the paper process and week-long conference, I had the opportunity to engage with my peers about pressing political issues. We heard from experts and officials who gave us special insight into our political landscape. Coming out of the Fellowship, I knew that these domestic and international issues are what I want to report on, ultimately leading me to CNN.

What is your favorite memory of the Fellowship?
My favorite memory from the Fellowship was trivia night. It was so much fun playing alongside my peers and bonding with students from different universities. Fun fact: the table of people I sat with turned into my closest friends at the conference. We regularly text about the latest political push alert, our personal life updates, and everything in between!

If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?
I’m still figuring out what my dream job is but I’d love to work on the White House or Capitol Hill beats!
