Mr. Roy Kapani
Roy Kapani is the chairman of Kapco Holdings, and the founder and chairman of the board of the U.S.-based ECS Federal, LLC. Kapani founded ECS in 2001, with a focus on Computer Science. Early work involved operating computer and network infrastructures and the development and maintenance of software systems for various Departments of the United States Federal Government. Later the company expanded into the areas of scientific research and development, advanced modeling and simulation, naval engineering and systems engineering, computer defense and radar physics. The company began to double in size at a rapid pace. He infused his beliefs in the corporate culture by creating a professional services firm focused on excellence, discipline and process. His management style places an emphasis on employee and customer satisfaction. Currently, ECS employs over 1,800 professionals nationwide as well as overseas.
Since 2001, Kapani has made investments in the ECS infrastructure as well as his employees. After a steady growth and doubling revenues year after year, in 2009 ECS had gained a foothold in the Department of Defense by winning a large contract with the United States Army. In 2011, ECS began acquiring companies to expand capabilities and fuel future growth. The first acquisition brought marine environmental services, ship systems engineering, maritime consulting and platform acquisition management. Also in 2011, ECS acquired new clients including the Missile Defense Agency, the Navy’s Program Executive Officer for Integrated Warfare Systems, the US Marine Corps, and the US Marshals Service. For 2012, large-scale Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software implementation and infrastructure design and development added to ECS’ expanding capabilities.
Continuing to acquire new capabilities, ECS made three acquisitions in 2015. ECS acquired new customers such as DARPA and other intelligence community, commercial and international customers. Mid-year, ECS acquired a broad scope of services including Cyber Security, Radar Physics, and Security Design and Integration. The 2015 final acquisition brought expertise in Information Management; Information Operations; Information Assurance, Enterprise Architecture; Network Engineering; and Systems Integration.
Since 2012, Kapani has served on the board of trustees for the Sibley Hospital Foundation. He is also serving (since 2011) on the board of trustees for the National Cathedral School. Kapani is an active member of the Young Presidents’ Organization and the Economic Club of Washington, DC. Kapani was named 2014 Ernest & Young (EY) Entrepreneur of the Year, Greater Washington, in Government Services.
Kapani earned his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Maryland College Park graduating with the class of 1990. He continued his education by earning his Masters of Business Administration in Finance from George Washington University in 1994. In 2014, he completed the Stanford Graduate School of Business Directors Program. Kapani, his wife, and two daughters reside in Washington, DC.
